Fluorescent Tube Image
“Field” image of fluorescent tubes lit beneath a HVOTL. This art installation was produced by Richard Box to illustrate the otherwise unseen electric and magnetic fields which people living close to high voltage overhead transmission lines are exposed to day and night. I doubt anyone would consider raising a child under such a field (internationally acknowledged as doubling the risk of leukaemia) if they could see it like this. Yet this will be imposed on many children in the Stirling area if this line is approved. The image is copyright South West News Agency (Picture Desk: 0117 906 6550).

Landscape Image
“Landscape” image. Donated by local photographer and member of Stirling Before Pylons, Fred Phillips. Email: fp1@stir.ac.uk. The imposed red pylon line is clearly figurative. The proposed route of giant pylons will pass over the Ochils escarpment behind the Wallace Monument destroying the monument’s stunning backdrop, as seen in this image. Associated with the line will be access tracks for construction and a substantial swathe cut through the ancient woodland of Yellowcraig to the left of this image – leaving a permanent scar.
Production and Design
Production and additional design work was undertaken by Curious Group, Glasgow. High resolution images can be obtained from Suzy Aikman at Curous Group (0141 2045665). The images above have been produced as 48-sheet billboards and are currently visible at the Keir roundabout, just outside Dunblane (thanks to Colin Kilgour and Clive Kilgour for erecting these in difficult weather conditions!).
